The Type H-48A Serial Data Test Set (test set) is used to test the serial data input and output circuits of the 1000 Series Serial Data Systems, and associated serial data compatible 800 Series DME.

The test set is designed to monitor the serial data transmitted between the units under test and to generate simulated data for transmission to those units capable of receiving serial data. The test set also allows, through its Nav test cable connections, for operating the RN876A RNAV so that it may be tested according to this procedures provided in the published RN-876A Service/Parts Manual. Another cable provision is available for connecting the C-1046A ADF Control Unit (which is serial data compatible only for frequency management) to the existing 800 Series ADF shop bench test cable to test the C-1046A ADF Control Unit with the 1000 Series ADF System, using the published test procedures in the respective service/parts manual for ADF units.
